Big Reflector

The Moon Reflecting on the Ocean

"Does the moon make its own light? No, because it is not a star. Then why can you read by the moonlight? Well, this is because the Moon reflects the Sun’s light, but it only reflects about 7% of the light that falls on it. Earth reflects about 39% of the light that falls on it. If we could fill the sky with full moons (which would take about 105,000 full moons!), it would still be only ¼ as bright as the Sun is. The Sun is 465,000 times brighter than a single full moon!"  From ThinkQuest

"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." Matthew 5:16

I was amazed at this little trivia in terms of how much light is reflected from the sun.  7% of the light that falls on the moon is reflected?  WOW!  Remember a month or so ago when the moon was the brightest it has been in a long time?  It was amazing to see and yet still was only reflecting a small portion of the source.

We have the privilege to "reflect" the glorious beauty and light of the SON.  Here is the little catch though...we are not a source of light in ourselves BUT the LIGHT SOURCE LIVES IN US!  We do not reflect the light.  The light LIVES in us and shines through us.  We would be horrible reflectors because of our own sinfulness but we get to be tremendous shiners of the light because it is the power of the source, God Himself, within each of us.  Now all we have to do is get out of the way enough so people will see the light shining in us.  Have fun with it!  LGLO,  Pastor Peter
