Lesson from Leviticus

Leviticus 22:31-33
"You must faithfully keep all my commands by obeying them, for I am the LORD. 32. Do not treat my holy name as common and ordinary. I must be treated as holy by the people of Israel. It is I, the LORD, who makes you holy. 33. It was I who rescued you from Egypt, that I might be your very own God. I am the LORD."

When I read Leviticus I sometimes wonder what is the point. When Christ came He fulfilled the sacrificial system completely. Because of that when I read Leviticus it seems so over the top related all the various ways in which we are to be holy. Then I read in Leviticus 22 (I probably saw it earlier but I'm a little slow) this kicker line "It is I, the LORD, who makes you holy." It isn't the sacrifice it's the LORD! That is a great reminder about this process that we are going through asking the question 'what would Jesus do?' It isn't answering the question correctly that draws us to Christ or draws others to Christ....IT'S CHRIST who does that!

One other interesting point about this text. The word remember is very prominent throughout the Old Testament and here there is a great 'remember'. "It was I who rescued you from Egypt, that I might be your very own God. I am the LORD." Remember that it was 'I who rescued you...' He rescued me too and it is great to remember that! Have fun!
