In the Beginning

I thought this was a great reminder...ENJOY! LGLO, Pastor Peter

"In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day." Genesis 1:1-5

This is how God's story begins. Out of nothing, God brings about all that we know, and with these first five verses of the Bible a pattern is set that continues beyond the first chapter of Genesis. The pattern goes like this, "And God said, Let there be __________ ...and God saw that it was good.” Did you catch that first phrase, "God said"? That is, God created out of Word. Out of God's mouth came that which God desired. God spoke, and there was light, water, sky, land, night, day, creatures, humankind. God speaks, and creation comes. This is why the Gospel writer John said that, in Jesus, the Word became flesh among us. This is why God speaks to us, and we are created and re-created by God.

As we reflect upon beginnings, God has spoken a Word to us, and in that Word God has created that which is good. Through that Word, God has given us life. By that Word, we are. Tim Tate
